Frontier Women of Sierra Leone

Photographic survey of early colony burial sites in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Part of the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s RememberMe project, University of Hull.

In the cemeteries of Freetown, Sierra Leone, are the final resting places of early women settlers to the West Coast of Africa. Buried within this dusty red soil is a crumbling and disappearing record of African, English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Portuguese and French settlers.
