‘Departures’ is the final image in the Poppies petals series. This image for me represents the end of an incredible visual journey, an intense photographic study of this wildflower that has allowed me to notice it, pick it, press it, shape it, tear it to pieces, and try to make sense of it. Working with these petals since 2012 has helped me navigate through the stories of war shared by women of many conflicts, but also through my own grief, the loss of my parents, one after the other. Photographically, the women of war work continues as women are still bearing the brunt of mankind’s madness and lunacy. There is more to show and tell.
For now though, it’s time to let the poppy petals fly.
‘Departures’ is currently on show at the Beverley Open art exhibition until April 28, 2018.
